King Library Press Book Arts Weekend with Mia Cinelli

King Library Press Book Arts Weekend with Mia Cinelli

Join UK Libraries' King Library Press for the Spring 2024 Book Arts Weekend with artist, designer, and educator Mia Cinelli.

On Friday, April 19, Cinelli will offer a free public lecture in the Great Hall of Margaret I. King Library. Cinelli will share the process of creating several "place-based" digital typefaces, revealing how designed letters can reflect hidden histories and form new narratives about specific places. A reception with light refreshments will precede the lecture. RSVPs are appreciated.

On Saturday, April 20, Cinelli will lead a hands-on workshop that engages with the narrative histories of typefaces and tactile methods of making. Workshop participants will recontextualize historical letterforms from the King Library Press collection to create new typographic compositions.

The cost to attend the workshop is $45 per person ($25 for students). Workshop space is limited and requires a reservation. Contact Dr. Paul Holbrook at (859) 608-9623 for more information or to reserve a space.

Mia Cinelli is an Associate Professor at the University of Kentucky's School of Art & Visual Studies. With work ranging from experimental products to large-scale typographic installations, Cinelli's research and creative practice focuses on the conceptualization of frameworks for experiences which engender meaningful physical and visual interactions. She has exhibited internationally, delivered a TED talk on typography, and recently developed a therapeutic weighted blanket designed to help the grieving. See Cinelli's work on her website.
